2023 2024 - Hot Chocolate Friday - Science
It was the last Friday before December, it could only mean one thing (no, finding the Advent calendar), Hot Chocolate Friday met to discuss our Science curriculum.
It was clear from meeting our junior scientists that they really appreciate the diversity of our Science curriculum, as well as understanding the intent of it. Raashid claimed that studying Science, "Makes sense of the world by understanding how it works," whilst Ahiyan has really enjoyed, "Experiments - especially making our own blood samples,". The hands on experiences, combined with careers events and Science days, really make our children believe that a career in STEM is possible for them.
We had a wonderful discussion on what it meant to be a good Scientist, these were the five main points we agreed on:
* The drive to be an expert.
* Imagination to hypothesise.
* Accurate measurement.
* Ability to record data.
* Observation over time.
From our discussions, children would like to take their learning outside more (Rabia was very passionate about this!) and would like more of an opportunity for recapping and peer learning. Something for Miss Spilsted and Mr Feldman to think about!!!
A big thank you to: Abhijot, Leyla, Gursimran, Rabia, Anusha, Raashid, Ahiyan and Ravneet for joining me.
