Beach Hut Architects in Year 2
Dust off your set squares, blueprints and hard hats! Our young architects in Year 2 have been planning, designing and building their own beach huts!
Imagine a warm summer’s evening at Sandbanks beach in Bournemouth. You are relaxing on the balcony of a vibrantly coloured, rented beach hut. It’s the evening and the summer sun is setting behind you. As it sets, the sun creates lengthening shadows down the beach. Shadows of the apex rooftops. You are watching the shadows slowly reach the gentle lapping waves.
This is the inspiration that year two children drew upon to help them design and create their own beach huts for their DT unit this week. Children competed against each other to create sturdy and stable beach huts that their teachers would happily rent out for the coming summer!
Prabhjot from Buttercup class stated:
‘My design will protect Mrs Sahota from the weather and it has stilts to stop the beach hut from getting flooded by the sea.’
Aarav from Marigold class stated:
'If Ms Soltani uses the beach hut she could get changed and store her belongings before she went for a swim in the sea.'
Even our in house DT Champion Mrs Uppal was amazed by the children’s engineering skills!'
