Dairy Meadow Book Club
Dairy Meadow has held their first ever Book Club! Children participating in Book Club have been given a specific book all by the author Sylvia Bishop.
Even though it was our first meeting... we had so much to talk about! Children took turns sharing their favourite parts and we also touched on parts in the book we didn't like so far.
In Year 2, we discussed the word 'onomatopoeia' as Sea of Stories has a lot of sound words for description. Year 3 are really enjoying Erica's Elephant and shared lots of funny moments they liked so far. Our first meeting with Year 4 was full of laughs as we re-read some of the funny moments in The Book Shop Girl, especially when the crowd was getting angry about all the mistakes in their books! Year 5 pupils came to the library and picked up their copy of The Secret of the Night Train and can't wait to start reading it. Year 6 pupils made links and parallels to their class text The Malamander as the more they learn, the more questions they have! As well, the group made the connection that Jamie wrote newspapers and not on social media, just like in The Malamander there are no cell phones or social media.
For our next Book Club meeting, the children have been given a challenge to come up with their own question. We can then begin our discussions about our books.
The children really enjoyed Book Club and Miss Spilsted can't wait for their next meeting!
