Ealing Sewn Up Challenge
Our Year 6 students were able to show off their creativity whilst gaining an insight into the wonderful world of textiles and design. Our young fashionistas were able to work with a variety of experts in the fashion industry to learn about the processes involved in creating but also upcycling old clothes.
A brief overview of the workshop:
- Dairy Meadow are one of four schools to have teamed up with Act for Ealing to take on the Ealing Sewn Up Challenge.
- The children have learnt how fast fashion negatively impacts the environment (one rubbish truck of textiles is landfilled or burned every second!)
- The children have learnt how to repurpose and upcycle their old clothes, for example: they have used old cotton t-shirts to make friendship bracelets, necklaces and belts!
- Thanks to Toyah Hemmings, the children developed a new skill of finger knitting! Our children are super talented where some even began finger knitting with their eyes closed!
- Dairy Meadow were then tasked with creating a fast fashion trailer highlighting the impacts of climate change – this will be debuted at a local fashion show at Gunnersbury Park Museum.
A massive Dairy Meadow 'Thank You' to Miss Nessa for organising.
