Elm Class HS2 Trip

On Thursday 10th November 2022, our young engineers were able to visit the site of the HS2 tunnelling project at Brakespear Road in Ruislip. This was the culmination of a nearly two year project in which our children were immersed into the world of construction and it's associated jobs in conjunction with SCS Railways (a subsidery of Skanska).

As you may know, Elm Class were able to name the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) that has dug part of the high speed rail network that is linking London up with the rest of the UK. Our children were able to meet the Works Manager and two Engineers who set the scene for our students to be mini engineers for the day. They had to attend a real life site briefing in their own PPE and helmets. We were then able to go up to the viewing platform that houses the TBM's before having a Q+A session with members of the site team.

Mrs Reed, Mrs Uppal, Miss Nessa and Mrs Bhambra were amazed by the quality of the children's questions and how they had gained such a deep knowledge of an industry that they knew precious little about. Josh summed it up best when saying that, "on most trips we learn about things that have happened in the past, this is now, this is the future". A massive thank you must also go to Phoebe Adams at SCS Railways who co-ordinated and organised everything so beautifully.

Enjoy looking at pictures of the future pioneers of industry.
