Hot Chocolate Friday - Music!
Our regular pupil voice session - Hot Chocolate Friday - met for the first time in the Spring term on Friday 20th January 2023 to discuss our music curriculum here at Dairy Meadow. A really productive discussion, alongside a lot of Bourbon biscuits, occurred with Mrs Smith and Mr McInnes sitting in as well.
It was very obvious that our children love music here at Dairy Meadow. Makaiyah says, "it relaxes me," and Mansirt commented on how much she, "enjoys listening to music from different countries."
It's clear that our children understand the key vocabulary in the music curriculum as they were able to educate Mr F on the finer points of: rhythm, pitch, pulse and improvisation. Children understand how the work they do on un-tuned instruments like the glockenspiel build over time - "We learned E, G and A in Year 3", "I played hot cross buns in Year 4", "we also learned the note F in Year 5".
Children actually view themselves as mini musicians with Sophia commenting that she would "like the chance to perform for the whole school". The range of instruments offered to children at Dairy Meadow was also praised as were the choir trips and work conducted alongside St Paul's Girls School. Of course, all our children wanted to be Mrs Smith's 'Star Musician'.
A big thank you to: Mansirt, Sophia, Aya, Alisha, Ekram, Jairaj and Hamza who joined me.
