PP Trip to the National Gallery
In my 15 years of teaching, I've been on a lot of trips! However I truly mean that our trip to the National Gallery on Tuesday 20th June 2023 was definitely the most unique! Not only did we see some sensational artwork but we also met some royalty!
It started off as a normal school trip, on the Elizabeth Line from Southall to Tottenham Court Road and then a brisk walk down to Trafalgar Square. However, when we reached the National Portrait Gallery there was a huge police presence and lots of paparazzi. Miss Francois used all of her charms to ascertain that the Princess of Wales, FKA Kate Middleton, was re-opening the gallery. We waited around, saw the princess exit her motorcade and even got a wave!
From there we immersed ourselves in the work of master painters. We compared the depictions of the River Thames in works by Sisley with the Canaletto's Venetian canals. We had a fascinating history of the life and times of Vincent Van Gogh from Miss Geddes whilst gazing at his Sunflowers and Two Crabs. Mr F gushed over expressionist brush strokes in Monet's depiction of Giverny, whilst simultaneously remarking on the pointilist style of Seurat.
What a day, thank you Miss Geddes and Mrs Francois!
