Pupil Parliament Discuss Lunches!

On Friday 17th January 2025, the Dairy Meadow democracy say a meeting of the Pupil Parliament to discuss lunches and the children's experience at lunchtimes. I was really impressed with how seriously and deeply our children care about the food and the atmosphere in the lunch hall.

We started our discussion with what was working well. It was unsurprising to see that pizza, chips and chocolate cake took pole position. It was lovely to see as well that the kindness of the lunch staff was mentioned.

Obviously, we then had to look at what could be improved. There was discussion about what to do with the noise levels, some heated contributions about portion size and much consternation about rogue pieces of pea and sweetcorn littering the floor.

Being solution focussed, the Pupil Parliament came up with some improvements, including the creation of a new pupil leadership position of lunch hall monitors. We will follow up on this with the school SLT.

A full summary of our discussions is in the image below.

A big thank you for to all the members for their time on Friday afternoon.
