Year 6 Visit 'Southall Resists' Exhibition
On Tuesday 23rd April 2024, Year 6 had the pleasure and the privilege of attending an art exhibition at Villiers High School. The event was entitled 'Southall Resists' and was an artistic representation of how Southall and its community has resisted the challenges of racism and discrimination in the 1970's and 1980's.
Dairy Meadow had the honour of hosting Janpal Basran and Suresh Grover to talk at the school last year as part of the Young Voices project. Here, our young historians learned about the local history of the area, as well as making their own symbols of resistance. The exhibition allowed local primary and secondary school to come together to share their artwork as a tool to empower young people to appreciate the history of the area.
Our friends at the Southall Community Alliance and The Monitoring Group collated all the amazing work completed in these sessions and turned it into a phenomenal film - it can be seen here.
The event was extra specially poignant for our children as it occcured on the 45th anniversary of the murder of Blair Peach. I'm proud that our children know the history of the tragic loss of both him and Gurdip Singh Chaggar.
As always we are indebted to Janpal and Suresh for all the fantastic work they do in our community.
Please enjoy the examples of the artwork below.
